Why Portixol Property?
Located no more than a fifteen minute drive from the airport and the historic city centre, Portixol property is ideal if you want to live close to the city centre but still have the feeling of living in a small town by the seaside.
The name Portixol itself means ‘port and sun’ in Mallorcan, and this totally describes what it is all about. You simply fall in love with the charming harbour and sunny terraces that welcome prime second-home buyers to the breeze of the Mediterranean sea. Every day, Portixol residents can enjoy its privileged setting with properties in the first line to the sea, the marina and endless miles of promenade along the coastline.
Originally an old fishing village, it has moved from being ‘up-and-coming’ to being one of the trendiest and sought-after areas around Palma city for purchasing property. Just a few decades ago, it was described as a run-down and disreputable place until the first homebuyers had recognized the potential of the picturesque harbor. They renovated the former fishermen’s cottages along the coast and developed the area. Despite the massive urban development in the area, the typical Mediterranean lifestyle and atmosphere had been preserved. The streets of this trendy fishing harbor are aligned with one or two storey fishermen’s cottages.
Portixol can offer different types of beaches for any taste. Many of the places along the waterfront have spectacular views over the small beach in the Bay. It is far calmer and more sheltered and is mostly preferred by locals than the huge neighboring Playa de Palma Beach. During the festivity of ‘Nit de Foc’ (‘The Night of Fire’ in English), held every June, you can see the beach lit by the candles and tea lights.
On the other side of the harbor towards Palma, you will find a larger Can Pere Antoni beach and the stylish Nassau Beach Club.
Or you can head the other way to the east, where you will find Ciudad Jardin with a longer stretch of sandy beach.
The Club Nautic in Portixol is located nearby, and there are always various activities happening as you can see people practicing SUP or enjoying an early morning canoe trip in the calm waters.
A lovely promenade road that starts from Portixol and goes through Cala Gamba and Ciudad Jardín is a favourite place among the local Mallorquins. Most people tend to cycle, skate or run along its seafront. It is also perfect for a long walk in the sunshine or to enjoy a coffee or a cocktail at one of the many modern style cafés and bars.
There is also a good selection of eateries in Portixol, with a relaxed, beachy feel. Here you will find some superb fish and seafood restaurants, and great tapas places. One of the favourite spots here is Tapas Bar at the end of the eastern part of the Bay. It has a large cocktail menu, as well as some great tapas, which you can enjoy inside on a comfy sofa or outside on a terrace, admiring the spectacular view of the sea.
After all the above mentioned, Portixol is not only a popular leisure area with the Mallorquins and foreigners alike, but this attractive harbour neighbourhood is the most desired area for prime second-home buyers with the most expensive properties in Palma. Several premium and customized apartment buildings have direct access to the beach and yacht club, private pool on a roof terrace and a paddle tennis court.
